We made a keynote on anti bullying. We have a lot of animation and videos and we have all the information. Our project as a whole is pretty good, we have information, videos to explain and a song from garage band. We used our time wisely and had a well thought out working method. What we would do is that we would divide our group into two, one would work on the keynote, one would work on something else like the song or videos or blogs. So we were all contributing to the project in some way. We all also had a well thought out method for the blog. I would do one thing, Harris would do one thing and Ali would do one thing. We got every thing done much faster. We finished everything on time and correctly (hopefully). We worked very well on the project except for one part, because of the absence of two people in our group, we couldn't do the last final video. We worked very well on the videos. We got everything done very quickly and we didn't have to do any editing. We also completed the keynote really quickly after the accident that occured. I think we could have improved by not fooling around with garageband. I think we spent too much time making the song. I think we wouldnt make the garageband song and we might have saved a lot of time. We sould have finished one lesson before today but because we fooled around and two of our members are absent, we cant do it. We had one huge difficulty, the keynote crashed and we had to remake it. We madeit again and realy focused to make it really got in a short amount of time. People liked the song and because they havent seen keynote, the animation were very cool to them. It doesnt really impact us but to the others it was a huge impact because they hadn't seen keynote before, plus garageband.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-15948935738807000972009-03-19T01:03:00.000-07:002009-03-19T01:15:22.989-07:00DesignWe are going to have two groups. One will work on the keynote and simultaneously, another will work on garage band and the blogs. The keynote we hope, will give the information needed. We are hoping to put the videos into the keynote. And then we might put the song we make in garage band into the keynote. Basically the keynote will be the main product. We are going to put a song into it, and videos to support our information. We are going to use keynote for the presentation, imovie to capture and edit the videos and garage band to make the song.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-44812254157771527072009-03-19T00:53:00.000-07:002009-03-19T00:59:36.605-07:00Process JournalWe have almost finished the keynote but we have to make the final video and two of our group members arent here.

For the video we are deciding to do some bullying scenes where Rami and Harris are the victims, Isaac and Ali are the Bullies and I'm the Teacher. We basically hope to teach people a lesson that bullying can be very dangerous and that people should stop now or someone could get seriously injured.
Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-34341407658451784562009-02-22T22:53:00.000-08:002009-02-22T23:31:56.909-08:00Investigation - Anti Bullying CampaignThe first website is aimed at children. It has a lot of pictures, graphics and games. Everything is colorful and seems fun. The second website is aimed at a slightly older audience. It has far more information than the other website, and not as many graphics. Both of them talk about bullying, but the second website has much more information. The first website, despite the fact that it is for a young audience, it is actually pretty crowded. The second website was well layed out, it had a lot of information in a easy to read layout and the navigation pane was very convenient.
Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-63045686738407597402009-02-14T21:07:00.000-08:002009-02-15T23:17:46.342-08:00Bullying: Evaluation of WebsitesBullying is making some one feel bad. it can make you feel depressed, hurt or alone. Bullying is very common everywhere across the world.
There are three types of bullying :
Physical : it's where the victim is abused in some physical way, (punching, kicking, killing...)
Verbal/Oral : it's when the victim is abused when the bully verbally bullies him, (teasing, name calling)
Relationship : when you don't talk to someone, spread rumors about them)
Bullying makes people feel bad, and really hurts them.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-36623079430227404002009-02-13T23:19:00.000-08:002009-02-14T21:03:41.751-08:00Website EvaluationI am pleased with the result of my website. I kind of followed my plan but i mostly made my website as I went along. iWeb was a pleasure to use. It was professional, with great features, yet it was also user friendly. I finished my website really quickly and i think i used my time wisely. Investigate was probably the easiest to finish. All i did was bookmark all the sites I found about Climate Change. Planning was ... probably not the best i've ever done. I really don't like planning. All i did was just roughly outline my website, i reccommend just getting all your ideas and building the website as i go along. Due to that, i immediately started working on my iWeb. I just built my website along the way and im very pleased with my result. Despite my hard work I couldn't add in any multimedia. This was due to a software issue on my iWeb. So here's my two animotos :

Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-47863170685861293332009-01-28T23:59:00.000-08:002009-02-14T20:36:40.144-08:00Client Meeting1.) Your design and layout of your web pages - does it fit your drawing/plan?

2.) Your topic and research. What have you done in Class?

3.) Color, font and use of multimedia.

4.) Does it have 5 pages?

5.) The features of iWeb. What's working? Not working?

6.) Do you have an Emergency plan? Do you have a reference page?

7.) You must take screenshots of your... website, Delicious bookmarks and google documents.

Answers :

1.) Well, actually no. I made the plan really quickly and hoped that as I progress, i would make and modify my website along the way, which is exactly what i did. My original idea was to put 4 drop down menus on my homepage. Now when you look at it, it's kind of confusing an i really think i need to make it more simpler. The links that I have are like an album, with pictures in them, and they lead to my pages. I also have a background that i also think is way to confusing.

2.) My topic is on Climate Change, or Global Warming. I first did my research on it because I had no idea what climate change was, until I found out it was the same as Global warming. After I had all my information, i then proceeded to make my website using iWeb.

3.) I used the colors red and blue. Blue representing the cold, which then fades to red, which means that the Earth is getting warmer. Right now all my font is Comic Sans of Marker Felt. I thought i would do the major parts before going into detail. I want to use a font such as melting or evaporating. I also have photos but no videos. (Which i'll later explain.)

4.) Yes. My website currently has 5 pages. I am planning to do more since i have no reference page of emergency plan.

5.) I personally really enjoy using iWeb. It's easy to navigate and use all the features. Although, some aren't working properly. I have html codes everywhere on my website as you'll see in the pictures. The html snippet doesn't work either, so i can't upload videos or anything that requires html.

6.) No, i don't have an emergency plan or a reference page yet, but i will make one.

7.) Here are some screen shots of :

My Website: (Right Click, Open In New Tab)

Delicious:

Google Docs:

I was going to put my presentation on my Google Docs but it doesn't support keynote...and i have no idea why it didn't upload...

Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-78438570863551872402009-01-11T07:33:00.000-08:002009-01-11T23:28:01.009-08:00Good and Bad websitesI actually found a website which has good website layout examples. Here is that website.

Mini USA - Good Website (By the way, if there is a white band on top, click remove frame or something like that)

It all starts when the loading starts. Instead of a boring old loading bar, they have a colorful bar with a random fact on the top. The actual page has one huge picture. In the picture there is some animated text and some navigation buttons. On top of the picture there are some drop down style menus. A good reason for doing this is because it makes your page so much clearer and cleaner. There is also a search bar to the right. On the bottom there is only one ad which is good instead of those pages with billions and some more navigation buttons. The color scheme is also a black background with white text. It's really clear to read and understand. Plus it's also kind of calm.

The one good thing I really like about this page is that it's so clean. You don't even have to scroll down, everything is just there, available in either the drop down menu, the navigation buttons or the search bar.

2 Column Example - Bad Website

This page has no excitement. Basically it's just text, text and more text. The reader would just get bored reading this, sure it would tell him what he wants, but only from one perspective. When you read, you get information from one perspective, when you have images or other forms of multimedia, you get another perspective, that's why text and multimedia go best together. There is also another issue with this, the colors might just be a little to over but when you actually read it, it's not convenient. You have to scroll down to read one column, scroll back up and the scroll back down to read the second column. The navigation is OK. Basically, it doesn't take you to another page, it just scrolls down for you.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-626326631289914872009-01-11T06:54:00.000-08:002009-01-11T23:16:47.065-08:00Natural DisastersHurricane Katrina

"Hurricane Katrina was the costliest hurricane as well as one of the five deadliest." The earthquake had a magnitude of around 9.2 and was the second earthquake ever recorded. It had the longest duration of faulting and resulted in huge tsunami waves, each reaching up to about 100 feet. The earthquake was just unbelievable. It released about 1.1×1017 joules or 26.3 megatons of TNT. If you still don't get how much that is, here are some facts that'll give you some sence of how strong this earthquake is. It's equivalent to over 1502 times the Hiroshima atomic bomb, it caused earthquakes to as far as Alaska, it shortened the day by 2.68 microseconds, it made the earth wobble on its axis by 5-6 cm and it made the entire planet vibrate as much as 1 cm.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-88549114553257968082009-01-10T20:54:00.000-08:002009-01-11T23:07:21.264-08:00Look at and Review over websites listed belowLook at and Review over websites listed below. In order to save them, you have to get help immediately which you can get through various ways of communication. If you can't get hold of help in time, a vast number of people can die. Communication is also important if you want other people to know about the disaster. There can be an earthquake when no one in the world can know about it.

What forms of communication have been used during recent disasters e.g Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami? - One of the most obvious ways of commmunication they used was the television. Almost every news channel across the world was transmitting information about the disaster, and immediately the whole world was alerted. Another form of communication they used was radio, probably walkie-talkies to communicate within the disaster zone and mobile phones or ordinary phones to call for help.

What essential information needs to be communicated during a disaster or emergency? - First of all you need to tell other people where the disaster is situated. It's essential that other people know where the place is other wise the help you would need would not be able to reach you. You might also want to explain how the people are injured. This might help in a helper's point of view because what if a guy is injured and the device you need to help him with you might have forgotten. You can also tell them an estimate of the number of casualties there are so that the helper's know what they are going to be up against.

What information can be created before the emergency? What information needs to be communicated during the emergency? - The information created before the actual emergency, if right, can spare many people their lives. for example, if people aren't warned that there is going to be a tornado, they wont be prepared whereas if they were warned, they would flee from that area, sure their house would get destroyed but at least they're alive. The information that can be created before an emergency can be things like the current place and path of a 'hurricane' or 'tornado', how fast it's going, where it's going to hit, when it's going to hit and how severe it is. The information communicated during an emergency might be things like if they are ok so far or not, how many people they see injured and probably what the emergency is like and when it's going to end.

What hardware and software is required to be able to communicate online? - Well you'll need both for communicating online. When people say I'm going to talk with you online, they usually think MSN or Yahoo, and yes they are ways that you can communicate online. You would need hardware like a laptop, computer or a mobile device that supports those messengers. You can also talk with Skype, on a laptop or computer. You can also use iChat on a laptop of computer and communicate with mobile phones either by calling them, texting them or video calling them. For all that you need the phone's OS.

Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-17858807829176564792008-11-29T20:42:00.000-08:002009-01-10T20:51:16.516-08:00Grade 7 IT InvestigationMYP Design

The MYP design cycle has four parts,

Investigate, Plan, Create and Evaluate. The first stage, Investigate, is when you learn about what you want to make. For example, when you want to make a robot and you don't know anything about robots, the investigate stage would help you learn about everything, in other words the investigate stage makes sure you know what you are going to make and how you're going to make it. The second stage, plan, is where you get all your tools setup, anything you really need to make your desired product. At this stage you plan for the future, well the future of this project. After plannin, you now have all the information to actually create your project. After creating it and possibly testing it, you're not done yet. You still have to evaluate. During this term we had Information Systems or Robotics. Our teacher, Mr. Christodoulo, guided us through the four design cycles and toward building a Lego Mindstorms robot. Unfortunately we couldn't ahieve our goal since the software, Robolab and the tower gave us problems.

What is a robot? Well, here is my definition to what a robot is, A robot is an autonomous machine that has four major parts that it uses to perform tasks. It uses AI and it doesn't need any sleep, it doesn't need a salary and its work is at a high quality and it is all consistent, which makes it perfect for working in dangerous environments in which a human would not be able to survive in. A robot isn't going to be a robot unless it has all of the following parts, Sensors, Processor, Actuators and Power. Say you give a robot the task of parking in a given space, what it would do is first of all sence what is around it. It would do this with sensors. There are countless sensors in the world such as Infrared Sensors, Light Sensors, Motion Sensors, Heat Sensor, Wind Sensor, Accelorometer, Ultrasonic Sensor, Sound Sensor, Magnetic Sensor, etc. But what this robot might use would be a proximity sensor. What that means is that it would be able to detect how far objects are. Then, that information would go to the processor. The pprocessor is the brain of a robot, it tells the robot what to do. If there is nothing around the robot, the processor might tell the robot to move forward. Over here, the actuators are very usefull. They are what the robot use to move around. These can be devices like arms, legs, heads,The wheels, gears, levers, pulleys, fingers or any other output devices that the processor controls. And then finally there is power. Without a consistent power supply, a robot will not be able to do anything.

To first build the robot, we have to Investigate. I remember that we went to a multimedia lab early this term and we disscussed what the essential components were for a robot. We also watched some videos on Youtube about people building robots, it didn't show them investigating, but at least we knew what we were heading for. We also watched some videos about some of the latest in robotics technology such as Azimo. It was just to give us a general background about robots. I also watched in awe as the robots performed tasks that i thought a robot might not be able to do for about 10 years. When we were done with the investigate stage, we made a huge mistake. On Thursday the 16th of October, we started to create our own robots for the first time. There was a huge mistake that we made regarding what we did on Thursday. We created the robot without actually planning of designing it first. All we did was look at a page that had instructions on it. We followed the instructions until we had built our robot. At the end we had no idea what our robot would do, it didn't have a program and most importantly, our robot didn't have power. Before we started to build our robot, we forgot to put in the batteries so that means that we would have to take the whole thing apart and then reassemble it. We also had no idea what our robot would do because we didn't have a plan. We just did what the book told us to do. The outcome of this mistake? We had to dissassemble the whole thing and actually give it a powersupply. So, we are back where we started. But we learn from our mistakes, and what we learnt was that the planning stage is very important.

So, with that put aside, lets get to the part where our robot actually starts to look like a robot, the create stage. There was a big problem over here too. We created our robot, but there were some ups and downs, sometimes we couldn't find our pieces and that one piece was a very crucial piece. My group tryed two different kits and finally on the third we got all the pieces that we needed. Then, just as we had our robot made, there was another dead end. The software for our robot wasn't working. Robolab could make programs, but without a tower, we couldn't transfer the program from the computer to the robot. This problem took a long time to fix and still right now its not fully fixed. During this time, we worked on our wikispaces.

We used our wikispaces to show our different stages. It was our way to show the teacher our work. We created many pages and here is what we have done.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Robots

Here are some ways robots can be useful :

Advantages
1) Going to far away planets
2) Spying on people in ways people can't move and from views humans can't reach
3) Going far down into the unknown waters where humans would be crushed
4) Giving us information that humans can't get
5) Working at places 24/7 without any salary and food. Plus they don't get bored
6) They can perform tasks faster than humans and much more consistently and accurately
7) They can capture moments just too fast for the human eye to get, for example the Atlas detector in the LHC project can capture ~ 600000 frames per second while we can see at about 60
8) Most of them are automatic so they can go around by themselves without any human interference
9) They can entertain us and help us in certain tasks

Disadvantages
1) People can lose jobs in factories
2) It needs a supply of power
3) It needs maintenance to keep it running
4) It costs money to make or buy a robot

Robot Laws

Law Number 1) Not to turn against your creators or any one that is the same species.
Law Number 2) Not to interfere with any devices of systems that are meant to be controlled by humans.
Law Number 3) To follow your program or whatever your creator tells you to do.
Law Number 4) Not to complain about anything and perform you task quickly and with top quality.

Win Logo

We also worked with a program called Win Logo. What it allows us to do is to Control a robot and make various images, both 2D and 3D.Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4716676758072992844.post-74971696361654866462008-10-20T00:06:00.000-07:002008-10-20T00:27:04.667-07:00Robotics - Investigation
A robot is an autonomous machine that has four major parts that it uses to perform tasks. The four parts are, Sensors, Processors, Actuators and Power. Without these parts, a robot will not be able to perform any type of task. Sensors tell the robot what is around it. Just like we have five sensors, Vision, Hearing, Smelling, Tasting and Touch, a robot can have many more like infrared, night vision, x-ray, etc. Robots need processors to think like we use our brain. Without the processor, the robot would not be able to make decisions. The information that the sensors gather would be useless because the processor is the only part of the robot that actually thinks and tells different parts of the robot what to do. Then comes the Actuators. They are the parts that move in the robot. They can be anything from wheels to pulleys, from levers to gears. The actuators gather information from the processor. The processor tells the actuators what to do. The actuators would be useless if there was no processor, but also useless if there was no power. The whole robot would be useless without power. Every living thing needs power. We get power from the food we eat. Animals get power from the food they eat. Plants get power from light and water but robots get power from electricity. There are two ways that a robot can get power. The first way is to supply the robot with power. This means that there is a wire connecting the robot to a power source and every second there is electricity going through the cable and then being used up by the robot. The second way that i think is much better is that the robot can make its own power. An amazing example is the Mars Rover. Humans haven't even figured out a way to get to Mars, how can they go there every week or so to change the battery. Instead the robot makes its own power. It has solar panels on it and when ever sunlight hits the panels, the Mars rover can produce power. This way, it can go on and on exploring. Exploring the surface of mars until the sun dies out. Without these essential components, a robot would not be able to function properly and would just become a piece of metal.

Hamdanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06802289819169824699noreply@blogger.com0
